Asus U30SD Review

The new Asus U30SD features an impressive compact finesse and packs the second generation Core i3 / i5 processor to make sure you are able to enjoy both portability and power while on-the-move.  While it is still no match for the Dell m14x in terms of GPU processing, its Core i5 2410M and Nvidia GT520 manages to get amazing score in the Crystalmark benchmark test.

Specs of the Asus U30SD reviewed by our friends at PCwatch go like this – 13.3 inch display, 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, Core i5 2410M GPU, 640GB hard disk (5400 rpm), 4GB DDR3 RAM (1333), Nvidia 520M GPU, HDMI, mini Dsub15 pin, 3x USB 2.0 ports, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system. The CPU has 2 cores and 4 threads and runs at 2.13GHz clock speed. Under Turbo mode, it overclocks itself to up to 2.9GHz.

The laptop does not come with any USB 3.0 port (unlike Asus VX6 with 2x USB 3.0 ports) which is a shame for a high end computer like this. However, great things have been said about its amazing battery runtimes. The reviewer was able to get a massive 10.7 hours of runtime on a single charge. This is chiefly due to the Nvidia Optimus Technology that allows the laptop to switch between the discrete GPU (Nvidia GT520) and Integrated GPU (Intel HD 3000), depending on the load.

The keyboard and touchpad, both are amazing. The keys have 19mm key pitch that will make sure you never feel tired even after typing for prolonged durations.

Verdict – The Asus U30SD is a bit bigger than the asus netbooks but provides much more horsepower and stamina under its bonnet which makes it ideal for mobile warrior. [read the Japanese version at pcwatch]
